I'm trying to run WON Counter-Strike 1.0 ("cstrike.exe" version 1.5.0.0) because of the Hazard Course and other specific mods like Holy Wars, Opposing Force CTF, Wanted!, etc., but I can't manage for it to run in a window larger than 1024x768. Anything greater I try from the configurator and the game tells me my graphics card can't handle these settings.
I'm stumped here, so any help is welcome!

Re: Counter-Strike 1.0 help
Post a screenshot for the configuration/video/video modes screen.
The HL engine not supports the 1280×1024 resolution. And the 1600×1200 support is added in the 1.0.0.5 patch IIRC.

Re: Counter-Strike 1.0 help
Screenshots as asked.
I set up nGlide to force it to run at 60 Hz, because for some reason, it will only run at 24 Hz otherwise.
I have also tried patching to 1.0.0.5, but I still get the same error message for 1600x1200.

Re: Counter-Strike 1.0 help
Hmm...
Try Voodoo2 ICD 1.0.0.438 with the 1600×1200 resolution (CS 1.0.0.5).
Copy 3dfxvgl.dll to the gldrv subdirectory. Edit gldrv\drvmap.txt -- add "gldrv\3dfxvgl.dll Voodoo2 ICD" string to this file. Then select "OpenGL", "Voodoo2 ICD" and "1600×1200" in the video mode screen.

Re: Counter-Strike 1.0 help
I can't test the 1600×1200 resolution, my monitor is 1280×1024. So I'm out of options...

Re: Counter-Strike 1.0 help
I remember just playing it and it was such fun!!!
Re: Counter-Strike 1.0 help
I remember running older versions of Counter-Strike on my rig back in the day, and the whole resolution setup was always tricky. With older games, it's a constant balancing act between patches, drivers, and the engine's limits. I had a similar issue with CS 1.x, where trying to force higher resolutions would always throw errors. A workaround I found back then was using a wrapper like dgVoodoo to ""fake"" support for higher resolutions. It might not make the game native 1600x1200, but it can stretch it while keeping things functional.
If you're planning to move to newer Counter-Strike games like CS2 in the future, they've upped the system requirements quite a bit compared to CS: GO. Checking these details beforehand could save you from compatibility headaches. You can find more information about Counter-Strike 2 system requirements here: https://skinsmonkey.com/blog/counter-st ... quirements
