Problem with Windows Folder

System: Windows 7 Pro 32 Bit SP1

Thank you for the handy tool.

Path: C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository
When i try to gain the ownership with the options "Set folder owner" and "Set folder full access right" enabled then it does not work with subfolders and files in subfolders.
System account is still the only one with full access rights.

No error at all.

One little wish: the field where the path to the folder is disabled, so that i can't paste a folder name there

i'm not the owner of the selected directory
and i'm still not the owner of the subfolders and files by having both options enabled in the dialog, and i dont have the right the delete files there

you don't need access to this folder, you shouldn't be removing things from it anyway as it corrupts the infcache.

use pnputil to remove old drivers

thanks for the tip with pnputil, but this just lists the drivers installed after installation of Win7
i want to reduce the size of the system
i dont have a printer so why should i keep >500mb for printer drivers?

with the windows integrated security property page i'm able to take the ownership and to delete the files

did you even bother to run it with the /? command.
i guess not.

FYI, windows WILL NOT install service packs if any if the files in inf cache are missing.

So which are the correct parameter to remove drivers? I did not found them!

I wanted to reduce the size of the windows installation not to install service packs - thats off topic.

If a service pack is needed then a new virtual machine will be created.

Anyway the tool NTFS Access is not working with the folders of Windows 7.

I have no idea why it doesn't work for you with \Windows subfolders. It works fine for me.

Anyway, the best way to reduce Windows 7 size, without damaging the system itself is to reduce \WinSxS folder size. You'd better install SP1 and then run this batch file.

Windows System Cleanup does the same job.

Right click on a drive, select Properties and follow the options -> Disk Cleanup -> Cleanup System files -> Select Service Pack backup from the list.
