My testing results for nGlide 0.90

Post by IceMan »

Tested on my Pentium4 3.2GHz Extreme Edition, with Gainward nVidia 7800GS+ (7900 chip on 7800 AGP board), Audigy ZS2, 1GB RAM.

Worked okay - no real issues I could see from a quick test:
Autobahn Racing (Incagold)
Boss Rally (Southpeak Interactive)
CART Precision Racing (Microsoft)
Dethkarz (Infogrames)
Driver (Infogrames)
Killer Loop (Crave Entertainment)
Mortal Kombat 4 (Midway)
Need For Speed II SE (EA)
Newman Haas Racing (Psygnosis)
Official F1 Racing (Eidos)
Powerslide (GT Interactive)
Speed Busters (Ubisoft)
Test Drive Off-Road 2 (Accolade)
Thrust Twist + Turn (Carts Entertainment)
Ultim@te Race Pro (Microprose)
UltraHLE (N64 emulator that only supports Glide)
V-Rally (Infogrames)

Minor issues:
Carmageddon II - Carpocalypse Now (SCi) - mouse in menus won't cover the whole screen, game is fine though
Formula 1 '97 (Psygnosis) - car shadow flickers when under timing banner
Ignition (Virgin) - slow frame rate
Mad Trax (Rayland) - slow frame rate (even on menu if going down) & transparent fences blocky in game
Motorhead (Gremlin) - all light sources flicker (car lights, street lamps, etc)
Pod Gold (Ubisoft) (using hacked .exe from Dege's dgVoodoo site) - crashes exiting game
Sega Manx TT (Psygnosis) - bike shadow flickers on road
Sentinel Returns (Psygnosis) - if set to 800x600 in options will crash switching to main menu after intro
Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3D (Lucasarts) - if set to 800x600 in options will crash starting gameplay after text crawl. Text crawl cannot be skipped either in Glide mode!
Test Drive 4 (Accolade) - in-car view, cockpit behind steering wheel is missing (see through)

Major issues:
Formula 1 (Psygnosis) Platinum budget edition - shows black screen with white border, no visuals
Grand Prix Legends (Sierra) - crashes loading menu
Le Mans 24 Hours (Infogrames NOT Atari) - didn't detect 3Dfx in game, can only select primary D3D driver
Midnight Racing (Incagold) - crashes starting a race
realMYST (Ubisoft) - Glide option not selectable in setup (maybe uses glide3x?)
Rollcage (Psygnosis) - needs glide3x
Rollcage Stage II (Psygnosis) - needs glide3x
San Francisco Rush The Rock Alcatraz Edition (Midway) (hacked to skip Quantum3D check) - crashes to desktop after opening video
Sports Car GT (EA) - crashes to desktop after loading a race
Test Drive 5 (Accolade) - needs glide3x

Not tested (as either installed with D3D option set or otherwise edited):
F1 Racing Simulation (Ubisoft)
GL Quake v0.97 (Quake v1.09) (Activision)
Monaco Grand Prix Racing Simulation 2 (Ubisoft)
Need For Speed III Hot Pursuit (EA)
Need For Speed Road Challenge (EA)
Need For Speed Porsche 2000 (EA)
Pro Rally 2001 (Ubisoft) - note: this game always crashes loading a race on XP, but works in Vista!
S.C.A.R.S. (Ubisoft) - note: this game always hard locks XP, but works in Windows98!
Viper Racing (Sierra)
My PC spec: Win10 64bit, i7-4970K (not overclocked) MSI Nvidia GeForce GTX 980, Creative Soundblaster ZX, 16GB RAM, Asus Z98-A motherboard, ROG Swift GSYNC monitor

Wooow! What a post!

Great job, IceMan. Thanks for testing.

So, here's the first comments:
-Glide3x games - for now nGlide doesn't support Glide3 Library (maybe in the future, we'll see)

-Games like Autobahn Racing, CART Precision Racing, Le Mans 24 Hours, Midnight Racing, realMYST, San Francisco Rush The Rock Alcatraz Edition, Pro Rally 2001, Viper Racing were not tested by myself, so I must test these games. I will post the results.

-Carmageddon II - you must enable 'Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution' option in carma2_hw.exe properties.

-Formula 1 '97, Sega Manx TT, Motorhead - yeah, it's a 24-bit Z-buffer limitation, so it cannot be done until most graphics card will support 32-bit Z-buffer.

-Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3D - is this full or demo version?
-Sports Car GT - full or demo?

-Test Drive 4 - could you post the screenshots?

-Ignition - how slow? did you test this game with fraps? It should be 15fps-intro movie, 60fps-in the menu and 36fps-while racing.
-Mad Trax - like above, it should be 60fps in menu and game; transparent fences blocky in game - could you post more detailed description/post the screenshots?

What OS have you used for tests (especially for Test Drive 4)?

-Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3D - is this full or demo version?
Full version with latest patch

-Sports Car GT - full or demo?
Full version (but on budget re-release) with latest patch

-Test Drive 4 - could you post the screenshots?
Not at the moment but I simply chose the Viper and Keswick stage; you can only see the steering wheel floating on screen, the dash behind it is missing. As you swap views you see the dash for a fraction of a second though.

-Ignition - how slow? did you test this game with fraps? It should be 15fps-intro movie, 60fps-in the menu and 36fps-while racing.
It was a bit slower than playing it on Zeckensack's wrapper (that I use for most things), certainly lower than 60fps. Probably my system spec though!

-Mad Trax - like above, it should be 60fps in menu and game; transparent fences blocky in game - could you post more detailed description/post the screenshots?
Similar to the above. I think I saw similar issues with dgVoodoo. An easy way to see it is to go to the main menu, then Options, then another level down like Graphics. On one of these lower levels it got very, very slow.

What OS have you used for tests (especially for Test Drive 4)?
Windows XP SP3 Home Edition for them all. I'm running Nvidia drivers 163.75 (as newer cause old games like Motorhead (in Direct3D) to run slower and slower until it hangs! Also it's worth mentioning I tested with anti-aliasing and ansiotropic filtering off (Application Controlled actually!).

OK, here's the results:

-CART Precision Racing - confirmed, works okay, added to games list
-Sports Car GT - to play in 800x600 you must set Windows 95 Compatibility Mode

-Midnight Racing - solved, it will be included in nGlide 0.91
-Sentinel Returns in 800x600 - solved, it will be included in nGlide 0.91
-San Francisco Rush The Rock Alcatraz Edition - added partial support, it will be included in nGlide 0.91

-Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3D in 800x600 - bug confirmed, i'm working on it
(to enable text crawl skipping you must slow down this game by enabling 'Force vertical synchronization'
option in your graphics driver configuration window)

-Autobahn Racing - to be tested

-Ignition - test this game with Fraps. If the game works at 36fps while racing - it's okay. This game should properly work at 36fps. if it's working faster on another wrapper, it's wrapper malfunction (strange, but true).

-Mad Trax - for me this game works okay (60 fps), although game must be run with Windows 95 Compatibility Mode. Maybe this is the reason for the slowdown.

-Test Drive 4 - hmm.. for me this game doesn't display anything (the device cannot be created). Please post your screenshots when you will be able to.

-Le Mans 24 Hours (Infogrames) - this is Glide3x game
-Pro Rally 2001 - Glide3x game
-realMyst - Glide3x game
-Viper Racing - this is not Glide game
