You were right. The folder "german" is missing. Seems that I just own an english (and spanish) version.

I'm going to rename the “Wide Screen” setting to more understandable “2:1 Viewport”, or “2:1 View”, or “Viewport 2:1” (?). Just because this setting isn't about widescreen resolutions support at all. But I need to translate this string to other languages also: German, French, Spanish, Italian, Swedish. If you know one of these languages, please help me with it.

UPD. I've used “2:1 Field of View” name for this setting.

Modern Patch v1.4.0 beta: http://veg.by/files/nfs3/nfs3_modern_patch_beta.7z

A huge update. For change log see readme_en.txt. Includes nGlide 1.05. The latest feature: super quick gameplay loading (it starts in less than a second).

Also it includes significant changes according to multiplayer game over TCP:
- TCP port 9803 is used by default, because original port 1030 often is occupied by Windows, so the game can't start.
- If you wish, you can change the port using MultiplayerTcpPort ini setting. Every player have to use the same value!
- You can specify a port after “:” symbol when joining IP game. If not specified, a value from the MultiplayerTcpPort ini setting will be used.
- When you're trying to open TCP multiplayer game menu, "failed to connect" error message will be shown if needed port is occupied by other application.
- For compatibility with the original NFS3 use 1030, but it is not recommended because this port often is occupied by Windows.

Can someone repeat this instruction several times and check if the game will crash?
1. Run the latest beta version of the game (using nglide renderer).
2. Start race.
3. Wait while starting animation will be finished.
These steps have to be performed quicly:
4. Press esc (it will open menu).
5. Click Quit.
6. Press Alt+Enter, and when the game will be switched to a window, quickly click Quit to Main Menu.
7. If all is ok, close the game (it's important), wait for some time and repeat all these points.

It didn't crash on my machine. Though I didn't experience the quick loading feature either.

I've added an animation of loading. You can click or press any key for skipping this animation. Also you can set LoadingSplashTime to any value in seconds. It is 5 seconds by default. To disable this animation at all just set LoadingSplashTime=0.

Also mind the time that is needed for switching display modes for your display/GPU. If you set LoadingSplashTime=0, the game can be started before your display will end switching to the new display mode. But you can avoid display mode switching using windowed mode or NGLIDE_RESOLUTION=1 and NGLIDE_ASPECT=1 in the ./drivers/nglide/thrash.ini.

Setting it to 0 did the trick. The loading screen can only be seen for a split of a second. Nice. I did not change anything in nglide/trash.ini and had no problems with display mode switching.

Have you tried to press any key or click when LoadingSplashTime=5? Please check if it works.

- Proper proportions of the objects in the rear view mirror.
- Fixed direction of the camera of the rear view mirror. The horizon is on the middle of the mirror now (for a better view).

Latest beta seems to be working fine for me.

Just noticed one artifact caused by widescreen I suppose. When you are in first person view and get too close or scratch the left wall, you can see trough it partially (Mirror is affected too). This doesn't seem to happen on the right side.

Here some screenshots:
nfs3_0002.png
nfs3_0002.png (1.8 MiB) Viewed 3114 times

nfs3_0005.png
nfs3_0005.png (1.86 MiB) Viewed 3114 times

nfs3_0004.png
nfs3_0004.png (1.79 MiB) Viewed 3114 times

(The right side seems to be unaffected)

Not sure if that can be fixed, nor it is a game breaker. Just wanted to point it out.
Greetings and thanks for the awesome work.
