question concerning dithering issues on modern graphiccards

Hello,
I recently found your glide-wrapper and am impressed by its abilities. You do a fine job on keeping glide alive and I thank you for that. I also beg your pardon, for my english isn't very good and my knowledge of programming tends to zero.
It's a well known problem on all modern graphiccards (or their drivers), that they don't support the old 16 bit dithering. There are many old classics that work but have serious issues with the color banding which is very ugly. Thief 1 and 2, Wing Commander Prophecy, System Shock, Myth TFL and many others are concerned.
Is there no way to bypass this effect by an emulator?

I agree, this is not nice effect.

If we are talking about Glide API games there is a potential possibility for making software dithering. It's worth to consider implementing this in the future (if it won't take too much CPU time).

Other games (non Glide) need DirectX wrapper (e.g. DirectX 6->DirectX 9) or similar software but AFAIK this one does not exist.

I've noticed, that the old zeckensack's glidewrapper seems to avoid the dithering issue. But my knowledge is, as mentioned, far to low to speak in technical terms.

edit: I also told these problems to the boys in the tain.totalcodex.net-forums a year ago. They implemented it in their Myth II-community-patch 1.7 but unfortunately not for Myth TFL.

Hmm.. I will see what can be done.
BTW, are Myth and WCP the only Glide titles tested by you?

Yes, they are the two I tested so far with nGlide. But I'll try some others too.
