Motocross madness

Postby Brunoooh » Thu Mar 10, 2011 10:26 pm

Hi,

To make things simple what I'd like to do is play Motocross Madness (the first one) in windows VIsta 32 bits (DirectX 11 installed)

Until recently it was not a problem because the game did install and play almost normally (except for a few ingame text not showing)

But recently I changed my graphic card from 8800 GTS (320 mb RAM) to 460 GTX (1 gb RAM) : since then the game does not recongnize my card and says I have no 3D card installed

I couldn't find no patch/command line option/reg modification to prevent the game from making such a check at launch

After a few search it seems that the game is so old it can't figure out that more than 512 mb video RAM exists and so considers I have 0 video RAM and can't play 3D game...

Weither this supposition is true or false isn't the point, but the idea is I remember that when I first bought the game I had a S3 Trio (not 3D capable) and a Voodoo 3dfX (the first generation)... so the game played through glide

I've tried to install nGlide, copy the glidexx.dll files in the games directory, in system32 (and I left the original location in system) but the game doesn't "see" the 3dfX and keeps telling me I have no 3D card

Any ideas, tip or suggestions ?

Thanks

Brunoooh

BTW : if someone cares to give it a try a demo of the game is available here : http://download.cnet.com/Motocross-Madn ... 21782.html
considering the demo perform the same check at launch if you can make the demo "see" a 3dfX the full game should be fine

New NVidia drivers fir Win7/Vista don't have 100% DX9 support.
Asus P4P800 SE/Pentium4 3.2E/2 Gb DDR400 (3-3-3-8),
Radeon HD3850 Agp (Sapphire), Catalyst 14.4 (XpProSp3).

Welcome Brunoooh.

I can't help because this game does not have Glide API support. You've played in Direct3D on Voodoo.

What? Where did you get this information?

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1341803 as example.
Yes, "not 100% compatible with DX9" is too strong, but the "new drivers have critical error with many DX9 applications" is better.

So that surely aint nothin to do with nglide since microsoft doing d3d games ...
But im myself at that point i want to make motocross madness working under win7 x64 and that badly fail.

My system got 1024 MB video memory and if Brunoooh say true thats the mistake. (mcm say there s no 3-d card)

I tried to have a go throuth microsoft compatibility toolkit and checked all what you said ('CorrectFilePaths', 'EmulateGetDiskFreeSpace', 'GlobalMemoryStatusLie', 'EmulateDirectDrawSync', 'EmulateEnvironmentBlock', 'EmulateHeap', 'EmulateFindHandles', 'SingleProcAffinity'.
Make sure you have 'DisableBoostThread' fix unchecked) but with no luck.

SO my question is, anyone got a clue what to check to 'emulate' 512Mb or less video card ? or directx6 api maybe ? or whatever make motocross madness working again :|

yes it does run fine at windows7, even x64.

But as Brunoooh pointed, there s a limitation on video card memory.
I made further testings, with an onboard grapic card (radeon x1200 series) under windows7 x64.

So i can say motocross madness works great with 128 and 256 MB of video RAM (and 320 MB said Brunoooh), but failed once you reached 512 MB. [important note : you have to delete the DriverInfo from HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Motocross Madness\ when you change video card or amount of video memory]

Also, theres a problem with HUD display in game but thats probably smthing to do with 7x64.

Anyway, that surely have nothing to do in an nglide forum, but thats actually the only discussion started on the whole internet about it.

7 x64,
