Please support Motor City Online.

Postby KoRner » Fri Jun 20, 2014 9:32 pm

Not everyone has to know, that (NfS) Motor City Online, game strictly made for multiplayer fun is now fully playable offline. Finally, it is real to run the game, under nGlide? I know, for this time not, but one thing is sure - MCO can also run under glide! So... from this place, I'm beggin' for support for this pure gem. For those, who don't know the title: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmW4VbogZSM

If you analyze this 3dsetup.ini - 3dsetup force dx7 even for Voodoo3/5/Banshee (3dfx_dxonly=1 and /m:dx7).
And Voodoo/Rush/2 aren't supported at all.
So, the only chance is - if the game have glide3x renderer (voodoo2a/z.dll) included. As the example - NHL 2002 is same (3dfx_dxonly=1), but there is voodoo2z.dll and the game can be forced to use glide.

Try this - replace 3dfx_dxonly=1 to 3dfx=1. Then run 3dsetup.exe. Theoretically "glide device" must appear as the choice after this manipulation.

Radeon HD3850 Agp (Sapphire), Catalyst 14.4 (XpProSp3).
2 Voodoo2 12 MB (SLI), Win2k drivers 1.02.00 (XpProSp3).

The question is, does the game work properly with Voodoo2 + voodoo2z.dll?

It's the second question. The first is - does the release include voodoo2z.dll/voodoo2a.dll on cd/dvd?
I don't have this game so - this question isn't to me.

Okay, first thanks for reply guys ;)

Motor City Online have included voodoo2z.dll on cd, so I've done things that was mentioned by Gamecollector, and everything runs nice. In D3D control panel now i have Glide option, and only one resolution 640x480. But for now it's enough :)

P.S. Said MCO runs smoothly, that's true but there is no 3dfx splash screen after run.

It is because WinXp/Vista/7 have compatibility fix for EA 3D setup versions 2.0 and above.
This fix automatically replace voodoo2 string to dx and a game uses d3d, not glide. You must disable this ACT fix or manually edit windows registry.
To disable:
1) Install Windows Applications Compatibility Toolkit (5.5 for WinXp, because 5.6 is broken).
2) Run Compatibility Administrator.
3) Go to "System database"/"Applications"/"Electronic Arts' 3DSETUP.EXE".
4) Disable (right click on 3dsetup.exe and select "Disable entry") the last entry of 3dsetup.exe, with "BIN_PRODUCT_VERSION"=2.
To edit - can't tell the exact registry key, because I don't have this game to test.
Theoretically you must find the key "Thrash Driver" in HKLM/"Software"/"Electronic Arts"/"Motor City" and replace its value from dx/dx7/dx8 etc to voodoo2. Then - run the game w/o restarting of 3dsetup.exe because it will again change this value to dx.

To force voodoo2z.dll usage - edit HKLM\"Software"\"Electronic Arts"\"Motor City"\"Thrash Driver" and set this key to voodoo2.

Well, there is 1 big trouble.
MCity_Launcher.exe starts the game through Mcity_d.exe, not mcity.exe.
And Mcity_d.exe not links voodoo2z.dll at all. Dx8z.dll only.
So - the game can't use nGlide in its current state. Unfortunately.

The game uses the glide API after this tweak. But - there is no track/opponents at all, with nGlide and with a real Voodoo2.
