Solution to Rogue Squadron Auto switch to D3D

Postby wALLY » Wed Feb 18, 2015 2:58 pm

I want people to know that the Rogue Squadron 3D installer that includes nGlide 1.02 is probably your best bet to fix the issue of crashes between missions. However, it still requires people to run the game without the use of the launcher and as a user in stead of an administrator. The problem some of you may be running into is that if you do run as the administrator and through the launcher is that it automatically defaults to D3D mode instead.

To be able to run Rogue Squadron 3d in Glide mode as admin using nGlide 1.02 without the software changing it back to D3D mode, you have to edit the the registry of the game.....

For 64-bit Windows users who installed RS3d into "Program Files (X86), it is a rather simple process.....

1. Run Regedit as an administrator.
2. Go to the following path in Regedit:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC\Rogue Squadron\v1.0\"

3. If the string "VDEVICE" is not already there, create it and make its value "Voodoo (Glide)" without quotes.
a) If "3DDevice" is still there change it to "Voodoo (Glide)" as well...or delete that string.

One thing I have noticed is that the 2d animation (direct draw) performance drops in most cases under nGLide 1.02 for this game....To fix this, make sure you do not run RS3D under any OS compatibility modes. Simpoly set the compatibility tab settings to ignore High DPI settings and run as administrator for both the laucher "ROGUE.exe" and the game itself. "Rogue Squadron.exe". nVidia users, all you need to do is force "Maximum Performance Mode" under your driver settings for Rogue Squadron 3D...If you happen to have an ASUS video card (be it for AMD Radeon or nVidia GTX chipsets), make sure that you ramp up the 2d clock settings to maximum if you have the option to do so.
