M1 Tank Platoon 2

Postby Treadhead » Fri Dec 19, 2014 2:01 am

Hey all,

First time poster, long time gamer...

I went a-Googling for M1 Tank Platoon II under Win7, and found this site and the wrapper and patched .EXE and hoped I'd found a way to run M1TP2 on Windows 7/x64...but thus far, no dice.

I installed the game, patched it to 1.2, installed the new Zeus M1TP2.EXE, installed the wrapper, and ran the game. I get two black screens with music but no video, then I get to what I think is/was the menu screen but the colors are completely scrambled. I can't see any menu options or a mouse pointer but I hear the mechanical whirring like the drop-downs are unfolding. Clicking doesn't do anything unless I can get the pointer on something, then it exits to desktop. Opening task manager lets me kill it cleanly.

Here's my system specs:

AMD Phenom II x4/950 (3.0ghz)
8gb RAM
Onboard audio
Geforce GTX 760 w/2gb RAM
Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1.
DirectX 11.0
Current up-to-date nVidia drivers

I've tried Win95 compatibility mode, Win98/ME, Win2000, XpSP3, and so on, to no avail.

Can anyone help me out? I'd love to play this great old game again.

DxWnd may solve your game menu problem.

Extract rar into a folder, run dxwnd.exe and add M1TP2.EXE into DxWnd's list (Edit->Add).

Thanks!

EDIT: I can play in full-screen, I just had to have Select Desktop Work Area checked. That allowed me to have a full-screen, with mouse input.

I'd forgotten how much this game needs a joystick though...!

The sole remaining issue is with movie playback; still getting a black screen on that (it's pink once I'm actually in the game), but starting the mission returns things to normal.

Sigh. I spoke too soon. It's now crashing to desktop after a mission ends and I hit "Y" to end mission. :(

I was so close.

Hi Treadhead,

don't give up. I found your post recently and tried the current DxWnd version 2.03.35 and it worked perfectly. No distorted colors, no CTD after the missions. The only limitation is that there are no videos (the screen just went to pink for a second) and the windows mouse pointer is always visible on top o the green one from the game.

System setup:
- Win7 Prof. 64bit
- nVidia GTX 750 Ti
- nGlide 1.04 from http://www.zeus-software.com/downloads/nglide
- DxWnd 2.03.35 from http://sourceforge.net/projects/dxwnd/
- tested with M1TP2 1.1 and 1.2

So maybe you give it another try. Good luck

Best regards

Check out the DXwnd on Sourceforge the Version 2.03.57 works like a charm on Win8.1 https://sourceforge.net/p/dxwnd/discussion/general/thread/5216d1b9/#69f8
