WHICH videocards work with nGlide102???

Postby TzeffNL » Wed Jan 22, 2014 4:45 am

I've read that

"nGlide translates all Glide callings to Direct3D, which is supported by almost all today's graphics cards."

But for some reason NONE of the glidewrappers (gl32ogl14e, nGlide092, OpenGLide_009rc7, psVoodoo_v0_13,ZeckensacksGlideWrapper084c) EVER worked! :-(

I previously had a EVGA GTX 280 FTW and now I have a EVGA GTX 780 Ti Superclocked.

Maybe the glidewrappers hate these videocards???

If you folks succeed to play your old 3dfx games with NGlide, please mention the brand of your videocard and also which Nvidia drivers were used...

(After googling unsuccessfully for hours, I've decided to register...:-\)

P.S. I had tested (unsuccessfully) old games on Windows XP and with different Nvidia drivers!

nGlide supports any card that's 100% compatible with DirectX 9.

Which old games did you test so far?

These games were unsuccessfully tested on Windows XP...with ALL the glide wrappers I know of:

X-Wing (windows 95 version!)
TIE-Fighter (Windows 95)
X-Wing vs TIE-Fighter
X-Wing Alliance
Hind (Digital Integration's - combat flightsim)
Hyperblade
Jane's F15
Formula One (By Psygnosis)
These games work only in Software Mode

Aliens versus Predator (1999 game)
Not a 3dfx game, but it won't run properly with modern video cards, so....

Mechwarrior 2: 31st Century Combat
This pne won't run at all after the installation! :-s

X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Hyperblade, Star Wars: X-Wing versus Tie Fighter, Star Wars: X-wing Alliance - not glide games. So - nGlide can't help you with these titles.
Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries - IIRC only special edition is glide. And this version isn't installing in WinXp.
Hind - only version from Frontline Fighters is glide.

Jane's F-15 is ok.
Formula 1 - don't have this game so - can't say anything.

All games in my list are tested with ATi Radeon HD2600 Pro AGP and Nvidia GeForce 9600M GS.
I can test with GeForce FX5600, but the result will be same...
Asus P4P800 SE/Pentium4 3.2E/2 Gb DDR400 (3-3-3-8),
Radeon HD3850 Agp (Sapphire), Catalyst 14.4 (XpProSp3).
2 Voodoo2 12 MB (SLI), Win2k drivers 1.02.00 (XpProSp3).

They ARE glide games!

Hyperblade had the option to run the game with 3dfx option.
All the X-wing games, excepting X-Wing Alliance had 3dfx support. I could run them with my 3dfx videocard (Diamond Monster 3d) in the past!

My mistake; I meant Mechwarrior 2: 31st Century Combat.

This game has the option to choose and install the 3dfx version, because I got it as a package with my Diamond Monster 3D 3dfx videocard back in 1997...

I've tested it and it didn't run but got only one big black screen...with in-game CD music! :-(

In DirectX/D3d mode.
I repeat - these games aren't using glide API. No glide*.gll in dependencies.

My mistake, I meant Mechwarrior 2: 31st Century Combat.

1) You still need a special 3dfx version. IIRC this cd is OEM only.
2) You need dplay.dll in the gamedir. Copy this file from Mech2Setup/DirectX.
Asus P4P800 SE/Pentium4 3.2E/2 Gb DDR400 (3-3-3-8),
Radeon HD3850 Agp (Sapphire), Catalyst 14.4 (XpProSp3).
2 Voodoo2 12 MB (SLI), Win2k drivers 1.02.00 (XpProSp3).

As Gamecollector mentioned only 4 games from your list utilize Glide API:

  • Formula 1
  • Hind
  • Jane's Combat Simulations: F-15 Classic
  • Mechwarrior 2: 31st Century Combat (3Dfx version)

F1 and MW2 require additional steps mentioned here to make them work on WinXP. F15 should work out of the box but glide2x.dll must be placed in windows system32 folder. It cannot be placed in game's directory. Hind doesn't work, black screen. Needs further testing from my side.

1 - Then why do the X-Wing games run only in Software mode with modern graphic cards?

The Mechwarrior came with my Diamond Monster 3dfx videocard. It IS the 3dfx/glide version but still it doesn't work with nglide...

I'll check out if it works by adding the dplay.dll in the gamedir.

Because of bugs in the game code / utilising bugs in the operating systems of the time.
