Nuclear Strike is very jerky

Postby Silanda » Sat Mar 27, 2010 10:54 pm

As the subject says, Nuclear Strike seems to jerk all over the place, it's not remotely smooth. Is it supposed to be like this?

For what it's worth I'm running Windows 7 (x64) with a Geforce GTX280. Incidentally, the only other glide game I was able to test, Unreal, is very smooth.

This game requires very fast CPU for smooth work.

I see what you mean, it pretty much uses 100% on two cores but none on the other two. I'm guessing that is to do with how things are threaded, yes? Out of interest, why is this game such a monster to emulate?

Yes, DirectX 'threads' things on your own.
This game has high requirements because it changes palettes very often (for palette textures). Modern graphics cards do not support many hardware features from glide (like paletized textures were disabled couple years ago in nvidia chips), so some things must be done in software or semi-hardware (hardware but using different mechanisms).
