F-16 MRF

Postby stryker555 » Wed May 18, 2011 3:02 am

Hello guys first time posting here. Now I play NovaLogic's F-16 Multi Role Fighter on occasion and I have used all kinds of Glide wrappers for it but have to say using nGlide is very nice and the playback is smooth and stable.

However even nGlide has its issues that I would like to be fixed as nGlide really puts out the most in the game in hardware acceleration. The issues are bad terrain textures up close, and no jet exhaust texture when the engine is not engaged on player aircraft and no texture on wing man's jet exhaust also the cockpit canopy looks a bit foggy. I will show some of the graphical issues with nGlide 0.96 3Dfx wrapper on Win 7 64bit OS, and ATi 4250 IGP using Catalyst 11.5 drivers.

Here we see the bad terrain texture that mars the otherwise good graphics, also there is no jet exhaust texture. These really needs to be fixed.

Here we see the bad terrain texture from higher altitude.

Here is a good view of how the graphics should look from a different Glide wrapper which has its own set of problems such as instability and missing cockpit textures and instrument panel glitches.

I would be highly appreciative if a fix to these problems would be made. My respects and thanks for your contribution to gaming graphics and keeping 3Dfx alive.

This trouble (wrong texture alignment and wrong vertex height if the triangle is partially before a view plane) is not F-16: MRF issue only. Currently I found 9 games with such effect (nglide 0.96, videocards X850, HD2600 and HD5730, catalyst 7.11, 10.2 and 11.5) and the testing is go on. (Andretti Racing, Braveheart, Driver, European Air War, F-16 Multirole Fighter, F-22 Lightning 3, Fighter Pilot, Red Baron II, Red Baron 3-d)
But the trouble is - there is NO such trouble on NVidia cards. So - the source of this is Catalyst drivers. Yes, damn ATi programmers still don't know how to make the work. Give me the machine gun please...
Thouble is - Zeus don't have a ATi videocard.
Asus P4P800 SE/Pentium4 3.2E/2 GB DDR400 (3-3-3-8),
Radeon HD3850 AGP (Sapphire), Catalyst 14.4 (XpProSp3).
2 Voodoo2 12 MB (SLI), Win2k drivers 1.02.00 (XpProSp3).

Argghh! I figured it would come down to ATi! Must be something to do with the W buffer? Man, I dunnno what to say because other Glide wrappers work when it comes to terrain textures but are glitchy and unstable. I like nGlide because it plays very smooth and doesn't crash, also the cockpit renders correctly without missing textures.

Thanks for the info Gamecollector, really appreciate it. I wonder if Zeus can cop a cheap ATi card and do something though? nGlide is pretty good as is, just that damn graphical corruption on my system with ATi/AMD graphics spoils the vibes.

I had but lost the access for Radeons some time ago, so buying one is probably the only option.

Hello Zeus. :) I congratulate you for your most professional work you have been doing here, my utmost respects to you. Can you scrape up a lower end ATi card and do something? Would really go a long way to help those with ATi/AMD systems to use your very nice nGlide wrapper for 3Dfx emulation.

OK, I just finished testing. All F16 bugs are not caused by ATi, but by glide wrapper. I fixed texture problems already. I'll try to fix depth issue too.

Excellent work Zeus! :ugeek: Working great with F-22 Lightning 3 and will try F-16 MRF soon, the colours are vivid and bright, very impressive! I would post screenshots but for some reason Irfanview is not displaying the RAW files properly.

Thanks very much Zeus you have saved the day! :D
