Scorched Planet + NGlide + Wine (Linux): strange comportment

Post by legluondunet » Fri Dec 29, 2017 2:38 pm

Hello,

I installed Scorched Planet WIndows version on Linux Wine.
First I installed nGlide then SP.
During installation, SP detected nGlide and installed a special exe named spvoodoo.exe.
When I launch spvoodoo.exe, the game launched but there are some troubles:
- icons of the options menu are duplicated
- sprites are not used correctly

This is some examples:

Do WIndows users have same troubles?

For your information, I own the Scorched Planet english version. On the CD, you have a folder named "voodoo" where you could find the SP voodoo.exe.

Thank you for your help.

I remember this bug. I have seen it long time ago even on Windows, but now when I'm launching the game with spvoodoo.exe with both DirectX and Vulkan backends it works perfectly. Hmm...

UPDATE:

Tested also on Wine 1.6 and Wine Staging 2.10 (Mint 18.3) and it also works fine.

Found it! The bug only appears with 3dfx splash logo option enabled.

The issue will be fixed in the next release. :)

I deactivated 3dfx logo, the bug is gone and can finally play this old game of my childhood.
Thank you very much for your support :)

Hello Zeus,
it's not very important but I will be interested by this new release with this bug corrected.
I like the 3dfx splash before to play, yes I know... :D

Hello Zeus,
thank you for the notification, I installed the last nglide version, it works very well.
With your software I could write two Lutris scripts:
Scorched Planet: https://lutris.net/games/scorched-planet/
Cyber Gladiators: https://lutris.net/games/cyber-gladiators/
Lutris help Linux users to install games easier on Linux, just click install button.
Concerning Scorched Planet, could you tell me if you can reproduce this issue:
the game will freeze more than 15s when you start/resume/quit game?
Last thing: NGlide gamma setting doesn't seem compatible with Wine and it is a little annoying because this two games screen are too dark.

Yes, it may occur also on Windows with fast CPUs. The issue needs to be resolved in .exe, it is nothing on nGlide's side.

DX backend I assume? Well, nGlide doesn't use anything special in this regard, just a standard DX9 SetGammaRamp() method. Could this be DxWnd you use with your scripts? (DX9 gamma works only in fullscreen mode). Does gamma work with your other DX9 titles with Wine?
