Speed Busters crash

Postby psyalemao » Wed Feb 03, 2010 12:33 am

Hi,
first of all thanks for you glide wrapper, I support it :)
I'm trying to play Speed Busters but the game crashes when initializing.
I patched the game to the version 1.1 and I set the compatibility mode to Windows 95. With D3D6 the game runs fine.

BTW, there is a game that is playable and is not in the compatibility list: BreackNeck (a.k.a N.I.C.E 2 in some countries) that supports 3DFX and is working with nGlide 0.92 :D

32-Bit Texture Quality and 1280x1024 on a Glide2 game? Did you actually try lowering them? They are not part of Glide2x standard spec as far as I know! Try using 16-bit and 640x480 and turn everything off and test, you might have already before posting because it is a logical thing to do but you didn't mention it so... give it a go

No, 3Dfx2 means Glide3, not Glide2, so it's possible.

BTW. Game crashes even in Glide2 mode at 640x480. This game worked fine in the past, but stopped working in XP Service Pack 2 or 3. More tests must be taken.

Ahhh my mistake, I had not heard of "3dfx2" term before so I assumed it was Glide2x :) Good to know. I don't have a copy of Speed Busters to test but I will be sure to test some more games in the next few weeks and give my reports in a new thread for you Zeus, great work :D

I decided to try the game again with nGLide 0.9.3. Unfortunatelly I don't have XP installed anymore, so I don't know if the game makes the same behaviour. I'm with Win7 x32 and the game sometimes works, sometimes crashes with 3dfx2 or 3dfx setting, and it always crashes when exit the game.
Another sympton is that the game on 3dfx2/3dfx seems to be running on 16-bit def colors instead of 32-bit, even setting to 32-bit in settings. Setting to DX6 the colors are right 32-bit.

game crashes

Yesss!, I finally found a reason why this game crashes on some machines. It isn't ServicePack fault.
If your CPU frequency is above 2GHz you must lower it to max. 2GHz. You can do this in your BIOS. :D

Game is surely rendered in 32-bit.
