Ignition Minor issues

Postby SFRusher » Thu Nov 18, 2010 1:33 pm

Hello again,
I' d like to report some small graphical issues for the game "Ignition".
Note: I don't run the game in Win9x compatibility mode.
-When a car gets destroyed, I noticed that when it respawns it missing the "glossy respawn effect",
-When a race is over, the options that normaly appear (Somthing like: Retry Race? (Y) or (N)) won't shown,
but if you press "Y" it functions normally.
-In my PC also, It slows down a little when it's rainning.
Well, that's all for today, once again thank you for your time!

Both can't be fixed. These are Ignition 3Dfx patch bugs.

Hi. I'm running Ignition with 3Dfx patch (this one)
under 64-bit edition of Windows 7 using nGlide.

Currently, I'm facing two major problem:

1. While playing, I'm experiencing input response delay of 0.5 seconds.
I tried Googling for solution, and though I expected much more results,
I encountered only one guy having the same issues with nGlide like I do.

Here are few quotes:
I managed to get the game working, however in one mode, all the colors were corrupted while in 3Dfx Glide mode through the emulator, graphics were indeed perfect, however there was a huge lag in pretty much all the input, sound had massive delay and it was skipping here and there. Basically it was unplayable.
If anyone manages to get past the input lag problem on latest 64bit operating systems and can make the game run perfectly, please let us know!

He says this problem is 64-bit based, and since I'm also running a 64-bit Windows,
this kinda proves his statement. This problem isn't present when using dgVoodoo v1.40+ by DEGE.

2. When playing in third-person view screen is completely blue.
In case you were unaware of this, switching between top-down and
third-person view is done by entering "svinpole" at the main menu.

Although I can hear sounds as I accelerate and such, I receive no image.
Screenshot says it everything:

Exactly same thing happens with dgVoodoo, but that software gives me even bigger problems.

- Unless I change the resolution from "Set by the application",
I will receive instant crash when starting the game.
- Running the game with enabled LFB access returns menu options and HUD,
but I receive black screen in top-down and blue screen in third-person mode.
- With LFB access disabled I do receive image in both modes,
but I have no menu options and HUD is almost completely gone.

Here are the screenshots as a proof for both modes working.
Ignore missing HUD elements.

Third-person view:

Any suggestion is welcome.

You may want to try disabling vertical sync option in nGlide configurator.

Yes, some glide games don't work properly on 64-bit systems. In most cases, glide wrappers are not responsible for this but game engines. I've made several sdb compatibility patches but not all of them can be fixed this way.

I think we have another 3Dfx version bug that can't be fixed. I analyzed Ignition's renderer and what surprised me this game wants screen to be filled with blue. :?

Vertical synchronization was off by default.

I tried making one with ACT v5.6 but with no luck.

Disabling LFB access in dgVoodoo does fix this problem, as visible in screenshot given, although it brings numerous other problems. Does this maybe give a clue or something? :)

And if I may ask:
Where does nglide_config.exe saves configuration to?
If I copy that configuration file (along with glide2x.dll) to the game folder,
will glide2x.dll use that file, or it will still access the one in the default location?

Exactly. This is not solution to this problem.

Yes, this is caused by LFB, but still filling whole screen (backbuffer!) with blue (opaque) don't make sense.

Where does nglide_config.exe saves configuration to

Configuration is saved in windows registry and it's global for all games. Configurator location doesn't matter.

Well, thanks for your help.
Seems I'll have to give up on playing Ignition
since there is no solution to the issues I'm experiencing.

Keep up with the good work.
Regards.
